Overview

​​Organizations in all fields depend on computer specialists to assist them with their information processing needs. The Computer Programming program will give you a solid foundation in the competitive job skills required for today’s information technology (IT) field. By focusing on both the theoretical and practical aspects of software programming, students will gain the problem-solving skills necessary to address real-world challenges. Throughout the Computer Programming program, you'll work with hands-on projects, allowing you to apply your learning in simulated workplace environments. This practical experience will help you stand out in the job market as employers increasingly seek candidates who can demonstrate theoretical knowledge, the ability to implement solutions effectively and most importantly the ability to collaborate effectively with peers.  Areas of study include:

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or Mature Student Status for applicants aged 19 or over without one. Subject prerequisites are Grade 12 English at the C or U level and Grade 12 mathematics at the C, M or U level. International and non-native-English-speaking applicants must meet Durham College's general English Language Proficiency Policy: IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5, TOEFL iBT 88 with no section below 22, PTE Academic 53 with no section below 49, CAEL 60 overall, or Duolingo English Test 110. No minimum GPA, portfolio or interview is stated on the program's own admission page; applicants missing a prerequisite can pursue Durham's Academic Upgrading and other academic-preparation pathways.

Application Details

Start Date: Three intakes a year - September, January and May. Current cycle class starts: 8 September 2026, 11 January 2027 and 3 May 2027.
Application Deadline: Domestic (apply at ontariocolleges.ca): equal-consideration date 1 February 2026 for September 2026 entry, 1 October 2026 for January 2027 entry and 1 February 2027 for May 2027 entry - Durham's standing rule is 1 February for a September start, 1 October for a January start and 1 February for a May start. Applications completed after the equal-consideration date are still accepted and assessed while seats remain. International: apply through Durham College's own international application, not ontariocolleges.ca; Durham publishes no general international closing date and directs applicants to the Intakes and Availability table on the program page.
