Overview

Have you dreamed of becoming a police officer? The Police Foundations program at Durham College offers training designed to meet the evolving needs of modern law enforcement agencies across Canada. Our unique two-year diploma program prepares students both academically and physically for rewarding careers in the field of public policing. By mirroring similar training and fitness requirements as expected from municipal police services, the Ontario Provincial Police, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the Canadian Forces. Graduates from this program gain essential life skills that employers are looking for.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or Mature Student Status, plus English at Grade 12 (ENG or EAE, C or U) with a minimum of 65 per cent. After admission, a Criminal Record Check or Vulnerable Sector Check may be needed for the Year 2 field placement. Year 1 can be entered in September or in January; a January start runs semesters 1 and 2 across January to August, and Year 2 then opens with semester 3 in September.

Application Details

Start Date: Two intakes a year - September and January. Current cycle class starts: 8 September 2026 and 11 January 2027.
Application Deadline: Domestic (apply at ontariocolleges.ca): equal-consideration date 1 February 2026 for September 2026 entry and 1 October 2026 for January 2027 entry - Durham's standing rule is 1 February for a September start and 1 October for a January start. Applications completed after the equal-consideration date are still accepted and assessed while seats remain. International: apply through Durham College's own international application, not ontariocolleges.ca; Durham publishes no general international closing date and directs applicants to the Intakes and Availability table on the program page.
