Overview
This collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing Honours program is jointly delivered by Durham College and Ontario Tech University at the Oshawa campus, combining classroom instruction, simulation labs, and clinical placements across four years of full-time study. The curriculum addresses nursing practice and the human experience of health, illness, and healing across the lifespan, preparing students to work with diverse populations in hospital, community, and public-health settings. Students complete supervised clinical placements throughout the program alongside coursework taught jointly by faculty from both institutions in shared nursing labs. On graduation, students are eligible to write the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses to become licensed as Registered Nurses in Ontario. Graduates pursue careers as registered nurses in acute care, community health, and specialized clinical settings, with the honours credential also supporting further study in nursing education, health administration, policy, or graduate-level nursing programs.

Admission Requirements: General admission requirements of Durham College apply; programme-specific prerequisites are published on the official programme page. DOMESTIC APPLICANTS (apply through ontariocolleges.ca / OCAS). Minimum entry is an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or an equivalent Grade 12 diploma from another Canadian province or territory (Secondary V in Quebec). Applicants aged 19 or over by the start of classes who have not finished high school may be admitted under Mature Student Status; where prerequisite courses are missing, Durham offers pre-admission assessment testing in English and/or mathematics and free Academic Upgrading. Every program adds its own prerequisites, listed on the program page - a senior-level English credit is near-universal, and health, trades and technology programs add Grade 11/12 mathematics and sciences. Bachelor degrees ask for more, and the requirement differs by degree: the Artificial Intelligence, Behavioural Science, Community Mental Health, Construction Management and Paralegal honours bachelor degrees each require six Grade 12 U or M courses with a combined minimum average of 65 per cent (including Grade 12 U English at 60 per cent, or 65 per cent for Behavioural Science, plus Grade 12 U mathematics at 60 per cent for Artificial Intelligence and Construction Management), while the Bachelor of Cybersecurity and the Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resources Management instead require Grade 12 English and mathematics plus four further Grade 11 or 12 C, M or U courses with no stated overall average. Domestic applicants can evidence English with a Grade 12 English credit at the C or U level, a post-secondary English credit, a GED, the Canadian Adult Education Credential, or a successful pre-admission English assessment. Accepted domestic test scores are IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5 for certificates, diplomas, advanced diplomas and graduate certificates and 6.5 with no band below 6.0 for degrees; TOEFL iBT 88 overall with no section below 22 (4.5 overall and no section below 4.5 for tests taken on or after 21 January 2026); PTE Academic 53 with no section below 49 (60 with no section below 57 for degrees); CAEL 60 with no section below 60 (70 with no section below 70 for degrees); and the Duolingo English Test at 110, or 120 for degrees, accepted for open programs only. INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS (apply through Durham College's own international application, not ontariocolleges.ca). Entry requires a secondary school qualification assessed as equivalent to the OSSD; transcripts from outside Canada or the United States must be assessed by World Education Services (WES) or the International Credential Assessment Service (ICAS) and the report must reach Ontario Colleges by the equal consideration deadline for the intake. Program-specific prerequisites still apply and are shown on each program page. English minimums are set by credential level. For most one-year certificates, two-year diplomas and three-year advanced diplomas: IELTS Academic 6.0 with no band below 5.5; TOEFL iBT 80 with no section below 20 (4 overall and no section below 4 from 21 January 2026); PTE Academic 53 with no section below 49; CAEL 60 with no section below 60; or Duolingo 105. For all Ontario college graduate certificates, bachelor degrees and compressed or fast-track programs: IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0; TOEFL iBT 88 with no section below 22 (4.5 from 21 January 2026); PTE Academic 60 with no section below 57; CAEL 70 with no section below 70; or Duolingo 115. Practical Nursing and the Communicative Disorders Assistant graduate certificate are listed as exceptions with a higher bar: IELTS Academic 7.0 with no band below 6.5, or TOEFL iBT 94 with no section below 23 (5 overall and per section from 21 January 2026); PTE Academic, CAEL and Duolingo are not accepted for these two. International students who completed at least three years of full-time secondary or post-secondary study in one of the countries on Durham's English-language exemption list, who hold an International Baccalaureate taught in English with a pass in English A from a Council of International Schools member, or who graduate from one of Durham's English-language partner schools may be exempted from a test, at the admissions officer's discretion. Test results must be no more than two years old and valid when the program begins.
