Program details

Overview

This graduate certificate prepares advanced care paramedics, providing the training and certification needed to treat injured patients and care for the critically ill. Students have round-the-clock access to the lab and practice space for learning support, and the program holds accreditation under Accreditation Canada's EQual program.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Entry requires either an Ontario college diploma in paramedicine or its equivalent, or a Primary Care Paramedic program accredited by Accreditation Canada - together with written evaluation or testing and attendance at an orientation session Durham makes mandatory. An Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant licence is not needed to be admitted, though it is needed to work as a paramedic in Ontario. Conditions attached after an offer: a criminal background check showing no convictions, with Vulnerable Sector Screening, arranged and paid for at your home address and requested as work with vulnerable persons for a student placement; a Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Rescuer CPR certificate at HCP or BLS level, current within a year; standard first aid current within three years, or an AEMCA certificate; an entry immunisation form; and a report confirming freedom from communicable disease.

Application Details

Application Deadline: Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for September 2026 entry the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2026 and offers must be confirmed by 1 May 2026; January 2027 entry has an equal-consideration date of 1 October 2026 (confirm by 1 November 2026); May 2027 entry has an equal-consideration date of 1 February 2027 (confirm by 1 March 2027) - applications after these dates are still assessed while seats remain, including for programs Durham lists as highly competitive (Paramedic, Practical Nursing, Dental Hygiene and similar), which share the same cycle rather than a distinct deadline. International applicants apply directly to Durham, not through ontariocolleges.ca, and are assessed on a rolling basis against each program's published intake availability; Durham publishes no fixed international closing date. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
