Program details
Overview
The PhD in Computer Engineering at Polytechnique Montreal trains graduates with advanced knowledge, intellectual rigour, scientific curiosity, and creativity for high-level professional practice, research, and university teaching. The programme integrates knowledge across five areas of computer engineering: software engineering, embedded systems engineering, networking and mobile computing, intelligent systems engineering, and numerical simulation and visualization systems engineering, while developing skills to adapt to fast-changing information technologies. The programme totals 90 credits: a minimum of 15 credits of graduate coursework and 75 credits of research leading to a doctoral thesis. Candidates who already hold a graduate degree may be exempted from all or part of the coursework credits, under the conditions set out in the general regulations for graduate studies. Students must complete all other requirements of their study plan before submitting their thesis, and doctoral students may not register for project courses, research projects, or directed-reading courses. Graduates receive the degree of Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.).
Requirements
Admission Requirements: To be admitted to a doctoral program, candidates must hold a bachelor's or master's degree from Polytechnique Montreal or a recognized equivalent, have a strong academic record, and secure the agreement of a professor willing to supervise the research. A strong academic record alone does not guarantee admission to the program; the candidate must also obtain a professor's commitment to supervise the thesis.
