Program details
Overview
This graduate diploma (DESS) in Technology at Polytechnique Montreal is intended for people who want to deepen existing knowledge or acquire new knowledge in their field of initial training, or who want to develop new skills related to using new technologies in their work environment. The program is made up of two or three micro-programs chosen from those offered at Polytechnique, each comprising three, four, or five courses totalling at least 9 credits. Where needed to reach the required minimum of 30 credits, students complete a graduate studies project offered by the department that best matches the training the candidate is seeking; when a DESS is built from two micro-programs, their combined course credits are normally 27, complemented by a 3-credit graduate studies project. The program requires successful completion of 30 credits in total, at least 21 of which must be graduate-level courses. It leads to the Diplome d'etudes superieures specialisees (DESS) en Technologie.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission to Polytechnique Montréal's graduate diplomas (DESS) and 2nd-cycle microprograms requires holding a bachelor's degree in engineering or in a discipline relevant to the program, or a university degree of a scientific nature with training judged relevant by Polytechnique Montréal. Applicants must also hold a cumulative average of at least 2.5/4.0 (or 2.7/4.3), or an equivalent recognized by Polytechnique; a candidate below this threshold may request a waiver by presenting a file demonstrating aptitude for graduate study, such as relevant professional experience or further study completed since the degree. Every admitted student must have a designated study director. Meeting these general conditions does not guarantee admission: candidates must also satisfy the specific conditions of the program applied to, and the program's responsible authority may add further requirements. Applicants whose prior education was not completed in a French-medium system recognized by Polytechnique must also provide an accepted French-proficiency test result, assessed before the rest of the file; failing this requirement leads to rejection of the application.
