Overview

Within this office administration certificate, an accounting course examines how accounting principles apply to the procedures an administrative assistant handles for service and merchandising businesses. Students practise recording transactions in journals and ledgers, turning that data into financial statements, and learn the purpose of adjusting and closing entries together with accounting terminology relevant to administrative work.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature-applicant status with credit in Grade 12 English (College or University stream, C or U). Applicants short of this are directed to academic upgrading, with a conditional offer possible on proof of enrolment. Graduates may transfer into the second year of Fanshawe's Office Administration - Health Services or Office Administration - Executive diplomas. Where applications exceed available seats, Fanshawe ranks applicants by Ontario-residency preference, then by application-receipt date against the February 1 deadline, then by achievement in the admission requirements. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas & Certificates tier: IELTS Academic overall 6.0 with no band below 5.5, or TOEFL iBT 79 (2026-scale equivalent overall 4.5, no band below 4.0), among Fanshawe's other accepted English tests.
