Overview
Employees require understanding and an ability to analyze accounting procedures as they relate to accounting principles.This course teaches students the accounting process from an administrative assistant's point of view for a service and merchandising business. Participants will learn to apply accounting theory and procedures to effectively record business transactions into the proper journal and ledger and to use this information to prepare accurate financial statements. You will learn the importance of adjusting and closing entries and the accounting terminology required to function effectively as an administrative assistant.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Direct entry requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or mature-applicant status with credit in Grade 12 English (College or University stream, C or U). Applicants short of this are directed to academic upgrading, with a conditional offer possible on proof of enrolment. Graduates may transfer into the second year of Fanshawe's Office Administration - Health Services or Office Administration - Executive diplomas. Where applications exceed available seats, Fanshawe ranks applicants by Ontario-residency preference, then by application-receipt date against the February 1 deadline, then by achievement in the admission requirements. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas & Certificates tier: IELTS Academic overall 6.0 with no band below 5.5, or TOEFL iBT 79 (2026-scale equivalent overall 4.5, no band below 4.0), among Fanshawe's other accepted English tests.
