Diploma in Police Foundations is a diploma in Fire, Justice & Security programme taught at Fanshawe College in London, Canada. The programme runs for 60 weeks, delivered on campus. Teaching is in English. Tuition for international students is CAD 35,503 per total (CAD 7,298 per total for local students).
This two-year diploma is built to prepare students to compete for a place in the Ontario Constable Selection System, with other possible pathways including Special Constable roles or related positions in public safety. Coursework examines the complexities of the criminal justice system, current challenges within it, and problem-solving approaches to community concerns. Alongside a strong theoretical foundation, the programme includes practical learning through scenario-based training and a fitness component.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Competitive program with an unusually specific English rule: entry needs an OSSD, an equivalent, or mature-applicant status with either Grade 12 English (C) at 70% or better, or Grade 12 English (U) at 60% or better. Applicants who fall short are pointed to academic upgrading, with a conditional offer possible on proof of enrolment; graduating from the preparatory route with a B in WRIT-1089 and C+ in the remaining courses meets the requirements. English test scores are at certificate and diploma level: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band under 5.5, TOEFL iBT 79 pre-2026 (4.5 overall with no band under 4 on the 2026 scale), PTE Academic 53 with no band under 45, CAEL 60 with 50 per band and 80 in listening, Duolingo 105 with no sub-score under 95, Cambridge English 169, LanguageCert Academic 65. Selection where applicants exceed seats: preference for Ontario permanent residents, application received by 1 February, then achievement in the requirements. Fanshawe notes that mandatory fitness courses run throughout the program and recommends familiarity with the Physical Readiness Evaluation for Police (PREP) and the Ontario Police Fitness Award standards, and that employers may require a police record check with vulnerable sector screening. Post-admission: attend the orientation session and hold Standard First Aid with Level C CPR and AED certification. The first level of courses is shared with Protection, Security and Investigation, and students may move between the two after level one.
Application Details
Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for Fall 2027 entry, applications open in early October 2026 and the equal-consideration date is 1 February 2027, after which later applications are assessed on a first-come basis until seats fill; non-competitive programs begin receiving offers from 1 November 2026, competitive-program offers go out by 30 March 2027, and 1 May 2027 is the usual deadline to accept an offer. International applicants apply directly to Fanshawe (CAD 100 fee) and face fixed document deadlines rather than a single closing date: for the current intakes, study-permit and conditions-met documents are due 10/15 August 2026 (Fall), 9/15 December 2026 (Winter) and 5/15 April 2027 (Summer); missing a deadline can mean deferral to the next intake. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
