Overview
Both the Protection, Security and Investigation and Police Foundations programs share a common first level of courses. Protection, Security and Investigations students who meet a minimum GPA, have a WRIT grade of 70%, and are in good academic standing may be eligible to transfer into Police Foundations after the successful completion of their first level in Protection, Security and Investigation. Please note: Police Foundations is a competitive program with limited seats. Meeting the above requirements does not guarantee a transfer from the Protection, Security and Investigation program into the Police Foundations program after level 1, due to seat availability.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Entry needs an OSSD, an equivalent, or mature-applicant status with Grade 12 English (U), or Grade 12 English (C) at 60% or better. Applicants who fall short are pointed to academic upgrading, with a conditional offer possible on proof of enrolment; a minimum grade of C in WRIT-1089 also meets the requirement. English at certificate and diploma level: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band under 5.5, TOEFL iBT 79 pre-2026 (4.5 overall with no band under 4 on the 2026 scale), PTE Academic 53 with no band under 45, CAEL 60 with 50 per band and 80 in listening, Duolingo 105 with no sub-score under 95, Cambridge English 169, LanguageCert Academic 65. Selection differs from the college norm: applications are counted as received by 1 May rather than 1 February, after which places are filled first-come, first-served until the program is full, with preference for Ontario permanent residents and achievement in the requirements. The first level is shared with Police Foundations, and students who reach the required GPA, score 70% in WRIT and stay in good standing may be eligible to transfer into Police Foundations after level one — though Fanshawe cautions that Police Foundations is competitive and the transfer is not guaranteed. Mandatory fitness courses run through the program.
