Trades - Apprenticeship in Cook II - Apprentice - Basic

The Cook Apprenticeship (Level I) is a part-time George Brown College Certificate combining in-school learning with paid on-the-job training under Ontario's Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) apprenticeship system. It is the first of two in-school levels (H601, H607) in the Cook Apprenticeship program, covering fundamental culinary skills and theories required in a modern kitchen alongside management practices such as kitchen management and business development. Completion of both levels, combined with employer-sponsored on-the-job training, prepares apprentices to write the Red Seal certification exam for cooks through MLITSD. Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent with grade 12 English (C or U) and grade 11 or 12 math, and registration as an apprentice with MLITSD under a registered employer sponsor, or mature student status (19 years of age or older) as an alternative. The program has open, continuous enrolment and charges a classroom fee of $678, currently covered by MLITSD.
