Overview

The Wind Turbine Technician program is a 32-week, part-time certificate delivered fully online as distance education, leading to a George Brown College certificate. It provides technician-level training in servicing, diagnosing, repairing and installing wind turbines and related equipment, developing a working understanding of wind turbine power and control circuits. The self-directed curriculum consists of 14 modules combining text, video, 2D and 3D animations, photos, audio clips and interactive electrical, electronic and PLC (programmable logic controller) simulations. Students receive a licensed copy of CircuitLogix, including 2D and 3D circuit simulation, and PLCLogix 500 for PLC simulation. Enrolment is open year-round with no fixed completion schedule, though average completion takes about 32 weeks of part-time study. Graduates are prepared for roles such as wind energy technician, wind turbine repair technician, wind turbine service technician and blade repair technician, covering tasks including inspecting and climbing turbine towers, performing routine maintenance, testing and troubleshooting electrical, mechanical and hydraulic components, replacing worn parts, and servicing wind farm substations and control systems.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: The academic prerequisite for students entering the Wind Turbine Technician program is a high school diploma, with credits at or above the general level or equivalent mature student status.
