Overview

This 45-credit graduate program leads to a Master of Science (MSc) in user experience at HEC Montreal, delivered mainly on site at the Cote-des-Neiges campus in Montreal with some asynchronous distance components, full-time or part-time, over 16 to 24 months. The curriculum covers user-centred design thinking, interface design, prototyping, user testing, and both qualitative and quantitative data analysis methods, with required courses in UX evaluation, research methods, data analysis, design, prototyping, and management, and electives in areas such as web analytics, mobile app development, and neuroscience applications. Students have access to Tech3Lab, described on the program page as the most important UX lab in North America. The program follows a thesis-only structure of twelve compulsory courses (24 credits), one or two optional courses (3 credits), and an 18-credit thesis. Admission generally requires an undergraduate degree of at least 90 credits, with priority given to backgrounds in industrial design, marketing, psychology, statistics, information technology, or management; enrolment is limited and not all eligible applicants are admitted.
