This two-year diploma combines electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation and control training for students pursuing high-demand trades work. The first year covers electrical fundamentals, safety, and circuit analysis, while the second year covers programmable logic controllers, fluid power, industrial mechanics, mechatronics, welding, and machining. The program is delivered at the Summerside Waterfront Campus, and students accumulate apprenticeship hours toward Red Seal certification, with the option to challenge the Block 1 exam in the Industrial Electrician trade after year one, or the Industrial Mechanic or Instrumentation and Control Technician trades after year two. Admission requires a Grade 12 credential or equivalent and a resume, with preference given to applicants with Grade 12 academic math and English and Grade 11 or 12 physics or robotics. The program suits students seeking broad, cross-disciplinary trades training rather than a single-trade specialization.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Beyond Holland College's general full-time admission rule (Grade 12 or equivalent with credits at or above the general level, a resume covering work, volunteer and extracurricular experience, and a high school transcript, with a post-secondary transcript added where relevant), the Electromechanical Technology page gives preference to applicants with Grade 12 academic math and English and Grade 11 or 12 physics or robotics. English is the language of instruction: applicants whose first language is not English demonstrate proficiency with IELTS Academic 6.5 (no band below 6), TOEFL iBT 85, CAEL 60 (minimum 50 per band), PTE Academic 60, Duolingo English Test 120 (no section under 115) or Cambridge B2 First/C1 Advanced/C2 Proficiency 176 (no band below 169). The program takes a September intake at the Summerside Waterfront Campus.
