Overview

This 90-credit interdisciplinary doctoral programme in Indigenous studies combines six courses (21 credits, five mandatory and one elective) with a 69-credit thesis. Teaching draws on approaches developed with Indigenous communities, including talking circles, knowledge-sharing workshops, and meetings with Indigenous knowledge holders, alongside conventional seminar instruction. The curriculum is designed to build both disciplinary expertise in the humanities and social sciences and a grounded understanding of Indigenous perspectives and methodologies. Graduates pursue careers as researchers, consultants, social-policy officers, and academics. The programme leads to the degree of Philosophiae doctor (Ph.D.) and can be completed full-time in four years or part-time in six years. Admission is possible in the fall, winter, or summer term, and applicants must identify a research supervisor and demonstrate prior engagement with Indigenous-studies themes in their application before being admitted.
