Sciences, lettres et arts is the French name that John Abbott's own program page uses for what it calls in English the Arts & Sciences program, an enriched two-year pre-university DEC combining a near-complete science and mathematics course load with social-science and visual-arts study. The page states students take roughly eighty percent of the mathematics and science courses found in the regular Science program, including two compulsory physics courses, general chemistry, and four required math courses, plus four compulsory social-science courses (history, sociology, psychology, and political science) and two compulsory visual-arts courses in art history and studio art. It describes the program as demanding and comparable in rigour to the Science program rather than an easier alternative, admitting a single cohort of about forty students each year through a competitive application process. The page states an English and Humanities sequence ties the science, social-science, and arts components together by exploring connections between literature, history, and science. Graduates are described as eligible for the same range of university programs as Science graduates, including engineering and medicine, with the exception of music and dance. Admission Requirements: Applicants need a Diplôme d'Études Secondaires including Secondary 5 Language of Instruction, Secondary 5 Second Language, Secondary 4 Mathematics, Secondary 4 Science and Technology (or Applied Science and Technology), and Secondary 4 History and Citizenship Education, or a Secondary School Vocational Diploma with Secondary 5 Language of Instruction, Secondary 5 Second Language and Secondary 4 Mathematics, or education the College deems equivalent. This double DEC (SRAM code 700.A1) carries the same science prerequisites as the Science program: Secondary V Chemistry, Secondary V Physics, and Secondary V Mathematics Technical & Scientific Option or Science Option. English is John Abbott's language of instruction; the College does not publish a separate IELTS/TOEFL minimum for general admission, and international applicants' academic credentials are instead assessed against their own country of study through SRAM's international admission service. Prerequisites older than five years should be discussed with the Admissions Office. Applications go through SRAM by March 1 for a Fall start.
