Overview

The Educational Assistant Certificate prepares graduates to support diverse learners in Kindergarten-to-Grade-12 schools and community settings. Over one year (two terms), the program combines online coursework with in-person components and hands-on practicum placements, building skills in literacy and numeracy support, behaviour-support strategies, and inclusive education practices. Students learn to work alongside teachers and other professionals to help learners with a range of learning, behavioural, and developmental needs succeed in the classroom. Graduates are prepared for roles as educational assistants in public and specialized school settings, as well as related community and childcare positions. Admission requires a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum grade in English 30-1 or 30-2, or, for mature applicants aged 21 and over, a passing score on the College Entrance Assessment test.

Admission Requirements: Applicants must hold a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 50% in English 30-1 or a minimum of 50% in English 30-2. Mature applicants aged 21 or older may meet this requirement by achieving a pass mark on the College Entrance Assessment test instead.
