Pre-Employment Carpentry Certificate

The Pre-Employment Carpentry Certificate gives students the technical knowledge and skills needed for an entry-level carpentry position and a path toward becoming a Red Seal carpenter. Delivered at Keyano College's Clearwater Campus, the program builds a foundation in trades-related science, mathematics, report writing, and employability skills alongside technical training in safety and building materials, tools, site preparation and building layout, foundations and floor-frame systems, and residential estimating and drawing interpretation. Graduates gain the equivalent technical knowledge and skills of a first-year carpentry apprentice and are prepared to comply with workplace safety regulations, develop a professional resume and cover letter, and succeed in a variety of employer interview formats. Students who complete all required courses may pursue an optional, non-guaranteed 135-hour work placement with regional employers. Admission requires English 10-2 and Math 10-3, a passing mark on all five Canadian GED tests, or a successful score on the AIT Entrance Exam.
