Overview

The Environmental Technology Diploma is a two-year, four-term Keyano College credential focused on environmental issues connected to the natural resource industries of northern Alberta. Students complete a foundation in chemistry, biology and mathematics alongside applied environmental technology coursework, building skills used in environmental monitoring, sampling and compliance work. The program prepares graduates for environmental technologist roles in industry and government, and it can also be completed on a part-time basis. The diploma is delivered in-person at Keyano College's Clearwater Campus in Fort McMurray, Alberta, and credits are recognized for transfer to other Alberta post-secondary institutions through the Alberta Transfer Guide. Admission requires an Alberta high-school diploma, including English 30-1, Math 30-1, Chemistry 30 and Biology 30, with the same subject requirements applying to mature applicants aged 21 and older. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the college's English-language-proficiency requirement before admission.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission to the Environmental Technology Diploma requires an Alberta high-school diploma or equivalent, including English 30-1, Math 30-1, Chemistry 30 and Biology 30. Mature applicants aged 21 or older must meet the same subject requirements as direct-entry applicants. Applicants whose first language is not English must meet Keyano College's English-language-proficiency requirement, met through TOEFL iBT (minimum 79, no section below 19), IELTS Academic (minimum 6.0), CAEL (minimum 60), Duolingo English Test (minimum 100) or PTE Academic (minimum 50), or by presenting six or more years of full-time education, including grade 12 or higher, completed in English.
