The Community-Based Environmental Monitoring Certificate at Keyano College combines Indigenous knowledge with western science to provide training in environmental monitoring. The curriculum covers mapping and navigation, wildlife, vegetation, water and snow, air, and habitat monitoring, along with communication technologies and regulatory processes used in environmental monitoring work, delivered with the involvement of Indigenous Elders and senior land users alongside western scientists. The 30-credit certificate prepares graduates, described by the College as Keepers of the Land, for employment in environmental monitoring or further study in a related field. Graduates who complete the certificate can receive advanced credit toward Keyano's Environmental Technology Diploma for select courses, subject to minimum course grades and acceptance into that program.
