Overview
Keyano College's Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Apprenticeship is a four-year Alberta apprenticeship program leading to a Journeyperson Certificate and Advanced Diploma, with the option to challenge the Red Seal exam for interprovincial certification. Each year pairs eight weeks of classroom-based technical training with a minimum of 1,560 hours of paid, employer-based workplace training, for use in sectors such as oil and gas, forestry, mining, and manufacturing. Training covers the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment, including reading diagrams and service manuals, operating rigging equipment, fitting bearings and aligning shafts, and servicing hydraulic and pneumatic systems. The program is delivered in person, combining institutional instruction with structured on-the-job apprenticeship training with an employer. Graduates who complete all required technical training periods and workplace hours, and pass the prescribed examinations, receive a Journeyperson Certificate as an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright).
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires English 20-2, Math 20-3, and Science 10, or completion of all five GED/CAEC tests, or a passing score on Keyano's entrance exam; an Alberta High School Diploma including English 30-2, Math 30-3, and Physics, Chemistry, or Science 30 is recommended. As an Alberta-registered apprenticeship, applicants must also be a resident of Alberta or primarily working in Alberta, and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, Convention refugee, protected person, or hold a valid work permit, Post-Graduation Work Permit, or CUAET visa; the program is not open to international applicants.
