Trades - Apprenticeship in Welder Apprenticeship

Keyano College's Welder Apprenticeship is a three-year Alberta apprenticeship program leading to a Journeyperson Certificate and Advanced Diploma, with the option to challenge the Red Seal exam for interprovincial certification. Each year combines eight weeks of classroom-based technical training with a minimum of 1,560 hours of paid, employer-based workplace training, for use in the construction and fabrication sectors. Coursework and on-the-job training cover arc, gas, and resistance welding using industry-standard techniques, blueprint and layout reading, developing weld patterns, checking and correcting defects, and joining and building up metal parts, tools, and equipment. The program is delivered in person, combining institutional instruction with structured on-the-job apprenticeship experience with an employer. Graduates who complete all required technical training periods and workplace hours, and pass the prescribed examinations, receive a Journeyperson Certificate as a Welder.
