The Apprenticeship in Building Envelope Technician trains apprentices to install, seal, repair, replace and remove the building envelope of residential structures, including wall and foundation interfaces, wall and ceiling interfaces, and window and door openings, along with the plumbing, heating and electrical systems that pass through them. The credential prepares apprentices to become provincially recognized, certified tradespeople in British Columbia. The program follows a sequential Level 1 through Level 4 structure administered through SkilledTradesBC, and Kwantlen Polytechnic University does not permit students to register out of sequence. Enrolment as an apprentice requires completed KPU Apprentice Registration, active registration in the BC Apprenticeship system, and a valid Trade Worker Identification number from SkilledTradesBC. Upon completion of each level, KPU reports the apprentice's in-school technical training results to SkilledTradesBC, which determines credit toward the designated apprenticeship. Applicants who are not already registered apprentices may apply as non-apprentices with completion of English 11 and Mathematics 11 or equivalents, an interview, and a sponsorship application.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Apprentices must have completed KPU Apprentice Registration, hold active apprentice registration in the BC Apprenticeship system, and hold a valid Trade Worker Identification number from SkilledTradesBC (Level 1 through Level 4); those without a SkilledTradesBC ID must complete an apprenticeship registration form through SkilledTradesBC before enrolling. Applicants who are not already registered apprentices may apply as non-apprentices with successful completion of English 11 and Mathematics 11 or equivalents, an interview, and submission of a sponsorship application.
