Program details
Overview
Langara College's Bioinformatics Associate of Science Degree is a university-transfer credential that applies computational and statistical methods to biological data. The program responds to biology's shift into a data science, where genomes, proteomes, microbiomes, and other large biological datasets require specialized computational tools to analyze. It includes a Work Experience component alongside coursework in biology, computing, and statistics. The degree takes a minimum of two years to complete on a full-time or part-time basis, with intakes in September, January, and May. Courses are designed to transfer into second- and third-year Bioinformatics, Biology, or Computer Science programs at BC universities. Langara also offers a Diploma and a Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics for students who continue beyond the associate credential. Graduates are prepared for further study or entry-level roles that combine biological sciences with data analysis, such as laboratory research support or genomics data processing.
