Overview
The Film Arts – Acting Certificate is an eight-month, full-time, in-person credential in Langara College's Department of Film Arts, running from January through August. The program trains students for on-screen acting careers through hands-on production rather than classroom-only instruction: each student produces two festival-quality short films with an on-screen role, working alongside a director, writer, and full production crew drawn from fellow students. Coursework builds audition skills, including creating a demo reel and a voice demo tape covering narration, voiceover, and animation work, and researching, preparing for, and approaching film auditions with confidence. The program culminates in a year-end Film Arts Festival public screening that showcases student work and serves as a launch platform for festival submission and promotion. It grew out of Langara's Theatre Arts/Studio 58 conservatory training approach and is one of three Film Arts streams (Acting, Directing, Writing for the Screen). Enrolment is limited; applicants must meet Langara College's general admission requirements.
