Overview
The Film Arts – Writing Certificate is an eight-month, full-time, in-person credential in Langara College's Department of Film Arts, running from January through August. Students write screenplays that are produced into two short films, working alongside directors and actors to gain practical, on-set production experience. Coursework covers scriptwriting for short films, features, TV series bibles, literary adaptations, and children's films, along with pitch writing, story editing and evaluation of others' screenplays, and hands-on production skills such as producing, editing, and location sound. The program culminates in the year-end 'Unlock the Vault' Film Arts Festival public screening, which showcases finished work to industry professionals. It grew out of Langara's Theatre Arts/Studio 58 conservatory training approach and is one of three Film Arts streams (Acting, Directing, Writing for the Screen). Enrolment is limited; applicants must meet Langara College's general admission requirements.
