Overview
The Coordinated Social Service Worker Diploma is the completion of the Social Service Worker Certificate and an addditional 30 Arts and Sciences credits. This program prepares you for entry level in a variety of social service and health-related agencies, as well as for further education in Social Work and other helping professions. The program provides a combination of academic, experiential and community-based learning and focuses on the theory and practice of delivering basic social services. Upon graduation, you may find employment at family agencies, immigrant service agencies, rehabilitation centres, First Nations bands and councils, advocacy organizations, and government, among others. Requirements
Admission Requirements: Domestic applicants need BC Grade 12 graduation (or equivalent) or to be 19 or older, plus a minimum 'C' grade in three credits of university-transferable coursework; international applicants need BC Grade 12 graduation (or equivalent). English proficiency is Category 1, Langara's higher standard: English 12/Literary Studies 12 at 70%, IELTS Academic 6.5 with no band under 6.0, TOEFL iBT 88 (Writing 20, Reading 20, Listening 20, Speaking 20), Duolingo 110, CAEL 70 with no band under 60, or PTE Academic 56 with no skill under 55. Applicants submit a Social Service Worker supplemental application form, two letters of reference (at least one from a human-service agency), and should show at least 60 hours of paid or volunteer social-service experience; a faculty interview is required, and a Criminal Record Check follows acceptance. Preference goes to applicants at least 21 at entry, and admission is competitive.
