Early Childhood Education Certificate

The Early Childhood Education Certificate is a one-year, 33-credit program that prepares students to work with young children in Alberta's early learning and child care sector. Coursework follows the Alberta Early Learning and Child Care curriculum framework and combines classroom theory with a practicum placement, giving students hands-on experience alongside instructors. Graduates qualify for Level 2 Early Childhood Educator certification, which allows them to work independently with children in licensed child care settings. The program is offered through three delivery formats: on-campus, fully online, and a blended format that combines face-to-face and online instruction, with online sections following a mix of synchronous and asynchronous coursework. Students beginning in the Winter term on campus complete a revised three-term curriculum. A Prior Learning Assessment option lets applicants with at least one year of full-time experience in the field have that experience credited toward the certificate.
