Trades - Apprenticeship in Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship

The Automotive Service Technician apprenticeship develops skills in vehicle diagnosis, repair and preventive maintenance over four years, leading to Journeyman certification. Apprentices spend about 80 per cent of their time working with a qualified service technician at their workplace, with the remainder completed in classroom and shop training at Lethbridge Polytechnic's Crooks School of Transportation, which includes 16 automotive hoists and other industry-standard equipment used on the job. Each year combines on-the-job experience with eight weeks of classroom instruction, building toward the practical and theoretical knowledge required for certification. The programme begins in late August. It is not currently open to international students, and applicants apply for a placement through Alberta's MyTradesecrets apprenticeship and industry training system.
