Overview
The Automotive Systems certificate is a one-year, 39-credit program at Lethbridge Polytechnic providing training and hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing vehicles, covering safety, tools, suspensions, brakes, electrical systems, and transmissions. Students gain 300 hours of hands-on experience annually that count toward the first and second year of an apprenticeship, using facilities that include 16 hoists and 3 dynamometers in the automotive lab within the Crooks School of Transportation. The program is delivered face-to-face at the main Lethbridge Polytechnic campus. Admission does not require a high school diploma, though applicants need English 20-1 or 20-2 and Math 20-1, 20-2, or 20-3, or equivalents. Graduates leave with foundational skills for entry-level automotive repair work or for continuing into a registered apprenticeship pathway. The program begins in late August each year.
