This two-year pre-university DEC program at Marianopolis College, also known as Histoire et civilisation, leads to the Diplome d'etudes collegiales (DEC) in Liberal Arts. The curriculum explores western civilization through history, philosophy, literature, and religious studies, progressing chronologically from ancient to contemporary periods and incorporating Indigenous and non-western perspectives. Students complete eight core courses spanning methodology, ancient, medieval, and modern history, philosophy, religious studies, literature, and humanities, alongside physical education across all four semesters. Seven electives allow students to draw from social sciences, fine arts, communications, and mathematics, including options such as art history, cinema, music, and religious studies. Small class sizes support discussion-based learning, supplemented by museum trips, architectural tours, and seminars with visiting professors. Graduation requires completing all program courses, a comprehensive assessment, and language exit exams set by Quebec's Ministry of Higher Education. The program prepares students for university study in the humanities and social sciences, leading toward careers in law, civil service, media, journalism, international studies, teaching, and research.
