The Ad hoc PhD in Indigenous Language Revitalization at McGill University is designed for members of communities whose languages are threatened, equipping students with research concepts, methods, and skills to support the maintenance, documentation, and revitalization of their communities' languages through interdisciplinary approaches. As an ad hoc program, it lets students build a tailored course of study by combining relevant graduate-level courses from different disciplines according to their individual strengths and interests. Successful applicants typically hold a native speaker's knowledge of an Indigenous language of the Americas or the Pacific, or show a demonstrated commitment to learning one as a second language, together with an interest and capacity for scholarly and practical work related to language revitalization. The program is research-based and leads to a doctoral dissertation, with admission through the Fall intake only.
