Hispanic Studies (M.A.)

The Master of Arts in Hispanic Studies is a thesis-based, research-intensive program offered by the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures in the Faculty of Arts at McGill University. The program covers the literature, intellectual history, and culture of Spain and Latin America together with the Spanish language, with departmental research strengths in the colonial, Peninsular Baroque, and Enlightenment periods, and in film and literary studies of contemporary Latin America and the Iberian Peninsula. Students have access to a media resource centre holding more than 300 Spanish-, Portuguese-, and English-language films and recordings from Latin America and Spain. Graduates develop skills in literature review, academic writing, and original scholarship, preparing them for further graduate study or professional work. Admission requires an eligible bachelor's degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 and English-language proficiency. The program admits students in both the Fall and Winter terms.
