Overview
This four-year Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences program studies health, wellness, and illness through combined biological, behavioural, and population-based perspectives, drawing on faculty from medicine, pathology and molecular medicine, psychiatry and behavioural neurosciences, and clinical epidemiology and biostatistics. Learning centers on problem-based, self-directed study delivered largely through inquiry-based courses and small-group work for data collection and analysis rather than large lectures. Students complete a prescribed core in early years, moving toward a senior project or thesis in fourth year under faculty supervision, with elective load expanding from year to year. Within the degree, students may pursue a Child Health Specialization or take on a concurrent certificate in Biomedical Sciences or in Immunology, Microbiology and Virology, and minors in other disciplines are also available. Requirements
Admission Requirements: Ontario applicants apply through OUAC with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma including six Grade 12 U/M courses; McMaster's Admission Requirements Tool sets this programme's specific prerequisites. The programme's own page adds that admission to Level I additionally requires one course that is not math, science or technology-based, checked against the university's course-code search tool (co-op courses do not qualify). Admission is competitive on the applicant's top-six average, and Health Sciences is one of McMaster's most selective programmes, requiring a supplementary application in addition to academic marks. International applicants present a secondary credential recognised as equivalent to the OSSD, with the same prerequisites, and undergo the same competitive and supplementary process. Applicants whose first language is not English must submit an accepted test score: IELTS Academic 6.5 overall with no band below 6.0, or TOEFL iBT 86 overall with a minimum of 20 per component for tests taken before 21 January 2026, unless exempt through at least four years of full-time study in English.
