Admission Requirements: In addition to McMaster's general requirements for entry into a graduate Engineering program, applicants for the Master of Engineering Design must hold a four-year engineering undergraduate degree or equivalent, with at least a B- average, equivalent to a McMaster GPA of 7.0 out of 12, in their final year in courses relating to the discipline in which they propose to do graduate work. Students with a degree in Science, Technology or Mathematics are also considered. Strong letters of recommendation are required, and applicants must complete an online interview. Professional work experience is desirable but not essential; applicants who fall short of the required standing but have at least four years of relevant work experience may discuss their situation with the Program Lead, who can recommend a live interview if the experience is judged sufficient. Students are admitted for September, with full-time study normally taking 24 months (or an accelerated 12-month path) and part-time study about 40 months.

Application Deadline:McMaster admits Level I students for September entry only. For Fall 2027, deadlines are set per programme: competitive programmes such as Engineering, Computer Science, Health Sciences, Midwifery, iBioMed and Honours Integrated Science close 15 January 2027, while most other Level I programmes (Business, Humanities I, the Life Sciences and Social Sciences gateways) stay open to 1 April 2027, often with an earlier 1 February 2027 'Equal Consideration' review point. These dates are identical for domestic and international applicants for nearly every programme; the sole exception is Nursing, where Ontario high-school applicants close 15 January 2027 and all other applicants, international included, close 1 February 2027. No programme is described as rolling beyond its published deadline. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
