The UNENE Nuclear Engineering Graduate Diploma is offered through the University Network of Excellence in Nuclear Engineering, a partnership of five Ontario universities, with emphasis on nuclear power reactor technology. It allows students to broaden their knowledge and enhance core skills in nuclear engineering at the graduate level, gaining theoretical and practical knowledge of at least two fundamental disciplines in nuclear engineering plus two areas of specialization. The program is offered part-time only, with courses scheduled outside normal working hours to accommodate students with full-time jobs, and admits students at any time during the calendar year. It is McMaster's course-based counterpart to the UNENE Master of Engineering, which is aimed at practising engineers seeking enhanced knowledge and skills in the field.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: For the part-time M.Eng., a strong baccalaureate degree in engineering, mathematics, or the physical sciences with an average of at least B (equivalent to a McMaster GPA of 8.0) is generally required. For the Graduate Diploma, offered jointly with Ontario Tech University, applicants must similarly hold a baccalaureate degree in engineering, science, or mathematics with an acceptable grade point average; relevant nuclear-industry work experience is given consideration alongside academic standing, and applicants must be deemed, on the basis of education and work experience, prepared to succeed in the program. Both credentials are course-based, delivered part-time in weekend sessions to accommodate working professionals in the nuclear industry, and admission recommendations are made by the Department Chair on the advice of the departmental Graduate Admissions Committee to the School of Graduate Studies.
