Overview
This apprenticeship programme delivers the in-class training component of the Residential Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic trade at Mohawk College's Stoney Creek Campus for Skilled Trades. It follows an earn-while-you-learn model combining employer-based on-the-job training with in-school instruction led by licensed journeypersons. Coursework covers workplace safety, trade mathematics, engineering drawings, mechanical cooling cycles, electrical fundamentals, pipe joining, welding and brazing, installation procedures, psychrometrics, air distribution systems, control systems and system commissioning. The apprenticeship totals 4,500 hours: 4,020 hours of on-the-job training with a sponsoring employer and 480 hours of in-school training at Mohawk College. Training offers are issued by the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development and registered through Skilled Trades Ontario, with multiple intakes at the Stoney Creek Campus. Graduates work as licensed mechanics installing and servicing residential air conditioning systems.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants must be registered apprentices in the Ontario Skilled Trades apprenticeship system, sponsored by an employer.
