The Bachelor of Music Education (BMusEd) at Mount Allison University is a four-year pilot program combining musical training, teaching theory and practice, and hands-on classroom experience. Coursework spans a pedagogy core (general education, philosophy, psychology, human development, Indigenous education, sociology, and music-specific methods), a music core (music history, theory, musicianship, aural skills, music creation, and three years of applied music instruction), and an elective secondary teachable subject outside music. Students complete 18 weeks of teaching practicums in New Brunswick schools: a three-week internship after year two, a three-week internship after year three, and a twelve-week internship in fall of year four. Graduates are eligible to apply for the New Brunswick Teaching Certificate 4. Delivery is on-campus at the Sackville, New Brunswick campus. The program suits students aiming for careers as music educators in K-12 schools.
