NAIT's Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVACR) Technician certificate is a one-year program covering the commissioning, design, installation, maintenance, service, and troubleshooting of HVACR systems. Instruction is split evenly between theory and practical classes held in a computer lab or shop, using hand and power tools alongside computer programs and simulators. The program builds familiarity with the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration industry and an understanding of the operating principles of industry-specific equipment, systems, and procedures used across the sector. Graduates receive recognition toward periods 1 and 2 of technical training in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic (RACM) apprenticeship, with full credit toward those periods once they pass the corresponding technical exams and complete the required on-the-job training hours.
