Overview
The Automotive Technology diploma trains students to diagnose and repair modern vehicles through classroom instruction, hands-on shop work, and work experience. The two-year program is delivered at the Notre Dame Campus and admits international students through a May intake. First-year coursework covers electrical diagnosis, automotive electronics, ignition systems, engines, drivetrains, steering, suspension, brakes, and fuel systems. Second-year students apply this knowledge to chassis and engine dynamometer projects, emissions analysis, and cold-weather testing of hybrid and electric vehicles, alongside continued study of automotive electronics, engine management systems, fuel injection, and anti-lock braking systems. Graduates receive a level-two apprenticeship accreditation. The curriculum combines theoretical instruction with practical shop experience to prepare graduates for careers diagnosing, servicing, and repairing automobiles in dealership, independent, and fleet service environments.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Regular admission requires proof of graduation from, or current enrolment in, Grade 12 with Grade 12 English (40S), Grade 12 Math (40S), and Grade 10 Science (20F); final grades for enrolled applicants are due by July 15 for fall enrolment. Applicants must also meet the program's English language requirement, either through three or more years of full-time secondary education taught in English in Canada, the United States, or an ELR-exempt country, or by meeting one of the program's approved English language assessment options. Mature applicants (19 or older and out of high school for at least one year) may qualify with Grade 10 English (20F), Grade 10 Science (20F), and one qualifying math course, or completion of the college's Academic Foundations program, in addition to meeting the English language requirement.
