The Environmental Technician program is a two-year Ontario College Diploma preparing operators for water and wastewater treatment facilities. Students study treatment process design, chemical and microbiological principles, laboratory techniques, and safety protocols, combined with hands-on operator training. The program is delivered in a blended format combining on-site and distance learning, and graduates are prepared to pursue Ontario licensing as drinking water and/or wastewater systems operators after gaining the required field experience. An optional co-operative education stream is available, adding paid work-term experience to the diploma. Admission requires an Ontario Secondary School Diploma with Grade 12 English and Grade 12 Math at the C or U level (MCT4C preferred; MAP4C accepted with a minimum grade of 60%). Ontario's Ministry of the Environment requires a high school diploma or equivalent to qualify to write the Operator-in-Training examination.
