Overview
This two-year, 72-week diploma prepares students to work with children, youth, families, and communities, covering mental health, trauma-informed care, assessment, intervention, advocacy, and ethical practice. Coursework combines theoretical learning with experiential activities across two years, including counselling foundations, Indigenous history of children and families in Canada, family diversity and interventions, professional communication, and therapeutic activities and planning, concluding with three practicum placements totalling 750 hours. Requirements
Admission Requirements: Fluency in English demonstrated by 60% in English 30-1, 70% in English 30-2, 60% in ENGL0190, or an assessed English equivalency. Students must be at least 18 years old at the time of practicum placement, and placement agencies may require a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check.
