Overview
This two-year, 68-week diploma prepares graduates to provide safe, competent, and professional Advanced Life Support as advanced care paramedics. Coursework covers anatomy and physiology, trauma care, pharmacology, advanced cardiac and pulmonary care, obstetrical and neonatal care, research methods, and paramedic development, together with intermediate and advanced ambulance and hospital practicum placements. Delivery is full-time and blended, combining online theory lectures and lab seminars with face-to-face clinical and field placements. The program runs across two years of fall, winter, and spring terms based in Slave Lake. Admission requires current Primary Care Paramedic registration. Graduates are prepared to write Alberta College of Paramedics certification examinations for advanced care paramedic practice.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: A PCP Certificate from an Alberta institution or current PCP registration with the Alberta College of Paramedics. Biology 30 (60%) or BIOL0190 (60%) or equivalent; English 30-1 (60%) or English 30-2 (70%) or ENGL0190 (60%) or an assessed English equivalency; Math 20-1 (50%) or Math 20-2 (60%) or MATH0190 (60%) or equivalent. Applicants must also hold current CPR/BLS certification, a valid Alberta Class 1, 2 or 4 driver's licence, a clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check, a complete immunization record, and a mobile tablet with at least a 9-inch screen.
