Overview
The Primary Care Paramedic Certificate is a one-year program at Northwestern Polytechnic that prepares students for careers as emergency medical care professionals. The curriculum teaches critical and basic life support skills through a combination of asynchronous online coursework, distance learning, and on-campus instruction at the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital, supported by hands-on clinical exposure and placements as part of the program's Work Integrated Learning component. Graduates are trained in patient assessment, treatment, stabilization, and transportation, and are prepared to provide basic life support and medical and trauma care in health services and industrial settings, including work as first responders, in remote areas, or alongside other EMS and healthcare providers. Graduates typically pursue employment with emergency medical services, industrial and remote-site medical teams, or continue toward advanced paramedic certifications.
