Overview
Community Paramedic is a 26-week advanced certificate at Saskatchewan Polytechnic for licensed paramedics extending their scope of practice into community-based care. The program builds on existing paramedic training with a focus on prevention, client education, geriatrics, palliative care, mental health and addictions, and chronic disease management. Delivery combines online coursework with 53 hours of hands-on practical labs and a clinical practicum in settings such as long-term care facilities and community clinics. Admission requires a current Paramedic Licence at the Primary Care, Advanced Care, or Critical Care level, verification of training under the 2011 National Occupational Competency Profile for Paramedics, and a minimum of two years of related work experience. Applicants must also meet Saskatchewan Polytechnic's English Language Requirement. The program is not eligible for the Canada-Saskatchewan student loan program.
