Cert in Medical Laboratory Assistant

This nationally accredited 32-week certificate prepares students to work alongside other health care providers and patients in laboratory settings. Coursework covers anatomy and physiology, basic laboratory procedures, histology and cytology, infection control and safety, microbiology, and specimen collection and handling, with eight weeks of supervised clinical experience. Classes run Monday to Friday on the Saskatoon campus, combining lectures, web-assisted learning, practical labs, and clinical practicum, with some classes also available through distance education. The program admits students each September. Admission requires a minimum keyboarding speed of 25 net words per minute at 90% accuracy, and Grade 12 with a minimum grade of 70% in 30-level English Language Arts, Foundations of Mathematics 20 or 30 or Pre-Calculus 30, Health Science 20 or Biology 30, and Physical Science 20 or Chemistry 30. Students must also complete a criminal record check and vulnerable sector search, provide immunization records, pass N95 respirator mask testing, and hold WHMIS GHS and TLR or SMART certification.
