This specialization within the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Educational Studies focuses on early childhood learning and applying digital technology and inquiry-based learning when working with young children. Students complete four specialization courses selected from options covering inclusive learning environments, developing literacy and numeracy, child development and health, holistic learning in early childhood education, coding and maker pedagogies for young children, and play-based and spatial-reasoning approaches, alongside the core Educational Studies curriculum in foundations of learning, digital tools for education, assessment and equity, diversity and inclusion. The four-year Honours Bachelor of Arts is delivered as a hybrid program combining online and in-person courses, based at the Downtown Oshawa campus with a September start, and is available with a co-op option. Graduates are prepared for roles in early childhood education and training, a Bachelor of Education pathway, or graduate study.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Current Ontario secondary school applicants must complete the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U or 4M credits, including English (ENG4U). Admission is competitive and the required average varies from year to year, based on school marks, distribution of subjects and performance in subjects relevant to the program; meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance. Applicants apply through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) using application code DEO, and those also interested in becoming a teacher should select the Concurrent Education option. Separate routes apply for out-of-province, international, mature, transfer, General Arts and Science and home-schooled applicants.
