Program details
Overview
The Health Care Aide Certificate prepares students to provide personal care and support daily routines for clients in hospitals, long-term care homes, and home care settings, as part of a healthcare team. The one-year, full-time program is delivered through a blended format with online coursework, mandatory in-person components, and clinical placements, and is offered at Red Deer and Camrose locations through a partnership with Campus Alberta Central. Admission requires specific English Language Arts grades or a Canadian high school equivalency credential, or a qualifying score on the Accuplacer test. Students must also meet provincial health and safety requirements, including immunization standards, for clinical placements, and may need to travel to rural or regional practicum sites. The program runs with Fall, Winter, and Spring intakes and is open to both domestic and international applicants.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission is offered to qualified applicants as space allows. Applicants must have 60% in ELA 20-1 or 20-2 (or Canadian jurisdiction equivalent), or 55% in ELA 30-1 or 30-2, or a Canadian High School Equivalency Diploma, GED, or CAEC, or a passing score of 237 on both the Reading and Writing components of the Accuplacer test. Applicants who have not completed ELA 20-2 with the minimum grade must complete the Accuplacer assessment; Accuplacer and English Language Proficiency test results are valid for two years before the program start date. Equivalent courses are accepted to meet admission requirements.
