The Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) Apprenticeship at Red Deer Polytechnic is a four-year program training students to install, maintain and repair industrial machinery, from factory production lines to ski-hill lift systems. Coursework covers troubleshooting complex mechanical systems, reading technical drawings and maintaining equipment such as conveyors and turbines. Each of the four 12-month training periods includes eight weeks of classroom instruction and a minimum of 1,560 hours of on-the-job training; classroom delivery is mostly on-campus, with some periods including a blended component. Students must achieve a weighted average of 65%, with no section under 50%, and a minimum grade of 70% on the AIT Provincial Exam for each period.
