Health Care Aide and Health Unit Clerk is a one-year, full-time certificate delivered at RRC Polytech's Notre Dame Campus for international students. The program combines two terms of study: a Health Care Aide term that prepares students to assist hospital patients, personal care home residents, and home care clients under a nurse's supervision, covering interpersonal communication, growth and development, gerontological care, and home care; and a Health Unit Clerk term covering the administrative side of a health care unit, including maintaining patient and unit records, processing physician orders, processing diagnostic and laboratory orders, and managing unit supplies. A 480-hour clinical work practicum gives students supervised, hands-on experience in both roles. Admission requires a clear criminal record and abuse registry check, current immunizations, first aid certification, and completion of a Personal Health Information Act workshop. This program stream is open only to international applicants; domestic students apply to RRC Polytech's separate Health Care Aide program.
